well done, 4/5 '09!

*HIP HIP HURRAY*

4/5 '09 has done it..

we've broken the record of achieving 6 months of zero-latecoming (out of 7 so far)...! let's see if we can try for zero latecoming for another month!

and we've also won the best banner design for 30th anniversary celebrations!

and... an excellent grade for c-cube classroom!

i have to say this.. I do really feel proud of all of you and that's probably why I'd (in Norman's words) "run a marathon" for you... haha...

and i'm saying this at the expense of having others think (and probably say) that i'm being super boastful... but, well, we're only happily celebrating our success and we should do it cos' we deserve it...!

keep it up, 4/5! :)

new widgets on blog!

ok.. i confess.. i was really tired and bored from doing my work (a.k.a. keying in strengths into the strength module for my form class)... i was really somewhat wishing i don't have to do this.. and plus, i still have prelim papers to mark! sighs.. anyway, i was bored.. and to liven things up, i decided to check out widgetbox for new stuff to add into this blog... and i found...
  • a countdown counter (i customised it for o level countdown)
  • a virtual puppy (which i named as brownie, yes, boringly, just brownie...)

and i was contemplating if i should add in a super mario game widget too... but, decided against it... haha.. probably will add in later when i get really bored...

have fun with the brownie! :)

Practical Notes for Class 4/2 2009

I'm sorry I took so long to post this up... was really busy with loads of other work over the past week..

Anyway, here are some observations and notes I made during your practical session (Investigation 5.3) last week:

  • Many of you do not read instructions/the whole practical before attempting the experiment. Do remember to read through everything once first..! So that you know when you have waiting time... or whether you should start boiling a beaker of water to save time later etc...
  • With reference to that practical we did, many of you were asking me for the meaning of "repeat steps 3 to 5 after 5, 10 and 20 mins". It simply mean just that.. everything you did from steps 3 to 5, repeat them, after 5 mins, after 10 mins and after 20 mins..
  • I'm quite appalled by the fact that many many many of you forgot how to conduct the Benedict's test... here are some things you need to remember:

*add about equal amount of benedict's solution to your food sample (about 2 cubic centimetres)

*fill up beaker (for boiling)with about 150 cubic centimetres of water... this would be sufficient for boiling your tubes, without overspilling

*the water in the beaker should be boiling, before you add in the tubes

*the tubes should be in the boiling water bath for about 3mins
That's all I have for this practical.... plus i'll also go through (or i had) in class with you...

Please please please read up the various practicals in your textbook and practical workbook... the essential ones like food tests, test for starch in leaf etc...

Once again, the format for your practical.. you'll be doing the whole practical (with physics) in 1h 30 mins. 15marks per subject. Give yourself about 45mins to do up each practical, and you'd probably like to start with physics first, as it normally doesn't involve "wetting" your table...

Good luck!

pretty exciting stuff...

i recently experienced the fun of adding widgets into blogs and facebook (my husband introduced it to me actually)... good news is.. i'm introducing this widget fun to 3/5 on Tuesday! I'll show them how they can make a blidget for their own blogs and how they can add widgets into their blogs/facebook accounts... (it's pretty easy actually)

next week, i'll post up a couple of widgets here so you can have fun playing games and learning new things...!

also, the student council recently came up with a brillant idea of auctioning/selling teachers' new/unused stuff to raise funds for the President's Challenge.. ms tay sp, ms low ry and myself will be donating 3 notebooks that we made ourselves.. these notebooks can be personalised with the name of the highest bidder/buyer later upon collection... there're many other items sold there as well... do have a look at the website (further details to come from student council next week) and support the cause!

a good video to watch...

ms low ry sent me this link with a video to watch... i thought the message behind this video is really good... it's quite sad to watch it... and my first instinct was i shouldn't be wasting food anymore.. there're people in this world who don't have enough to eat... do take a look at it. here's the link: http://www.cultureunplugged.com/play/1081/Chicken-a-la-Carte
